Although I had parked the entire trip, first starter rangitata (Tactical landing) showed a lot of skill in winning her heat of the Diamond Creek/SBSR Southern Surge series at Winton today.

The three -year -old Merrieveeulen is trained by Phil Williamson and was driven by his son Brad.

“She is inexperienced and a bit nervous, so that is why Brad could not hurry her in a good position. He just had to wait until she was in balance. When horses start, they can be very nervous and nerves can destroy them,” said Phil.

The short -term plan is to race at the end of the month in the $ 25,000 Southern Surge Final in Gore.

“She will race like a girl and that would make her one of the, although it is a tighter number that is not ideal for a giant. But by saying she is beautiful.”

Williamson says that the size of Rangitata comes from his father Tactical Landing.

“She has always been a very smooth trotter. As a two -year -old one day I had five two -year -olds (with the tests) and all five qualified and she is the fourth winner from the five.”

Rangitata is raced by Peter and Ben Smith, the Griffins Syndicate and Bev Williamson and is from the two victory Sundon Mare Lough Neagh. Lough Neagh is from Kahu del, who has left good pacers and trotters, including Pacers Swan Creek, Haretts Creek and Cullens Creek. Kahu del also left Kahlum the mother of one of the best trotters of New Zealand, Lyell Creek.
