There are no obvious lineup changes to the roster the Maple Leafs used against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday. Calle Jarnkrok skated on the fourth line, next to Steven Lorentz and Scott Laughton.
“First of all, I want to apologize for my actions. It’s a lot of frustration, so I’m sorry,” Nylander said, expressing his frustration at being left the lineup due to injury after aggravating a lower-body injury on Jan. 15 against the Vegas Golden Knights.
“I think we always have a good chance to do something special,” Ekman-Larsson said. “I know all the guys wearing that yellow and blue shirt want to do well. I think everyone knows what we expect from each other, and it will be a lot of fun to go out there and play with those guys.”
“It’s obviously a huge honor and privilege to be able to represent and compete in your country,” Matthews said. “There’s a lot of things you’re excited about. First and foremost, I’m looking forward to hockey and being able to compete like this. I think everything else that comes with it, it’s definitely a very special experience.”
Matthews declined to discuss the political implications of playing for the U.S. in the Olympics, and it’s clear he’s focused, at least for now, on the task at hand: beating the Buffalo Sabers on Tuesday to stop a four-game losing streak at home.
