– According to a lawsuit from Fiat Chrysler Canada, the exterior door handles on the 2012-2019 model year Fiat 500 are sticking, breaking and becoming loose.
FCA decided to settle the class action lawsuit against the door handle, but denies all allegations.
The settlement to replace the Fiat 500 door handle has not been approved by the judge, but the settlement includes an extended warranty program and a refund program.
Repair program for Fiat 500 door handles
FCA will repair or replace the door handles of vehicles affected by the alleged defects, extending coverage to 10 years from the vehicle’s date of entry into service.
If the vehicle is over 10 years old, the door handle coverage is one year.
Under the FCA settlement, the Fiat 500 door handle repair program does not include preventative inspections or repairs.
Reimbursement for replacement of the Fiat 500 door handle
Fiat Chrysler will reimburse customers for any repair or replacement costs previously incurred to repair or replace the door handles on their vehicles.
However, claims for reimbursement of door handles must be filed within one year of the first date the notices informing class members that the settlement has been approved are sent.
A final approval hearing for Fiat’s door handle settlement is scheduled for February 16, 2026.
The lawsuit to replace the door handle of the Fiat 500 was filed in the Supreme Court of Quebec: Paciucci et al. v. FCA Canada Inc.
The plaintiffs are represented by Lex Group Inc.
