The Utah Jazz decision to keep Kevin Love certainly attracted some eyebrows. He seemed the last player to need the team and only made the front court of jazz busier. Apart from the fact that taking him his contract would swallow, keeping love is also because of his influence on Lauri Markkanen and Kyle Filipowski.
During Jazz Media Day, both Markkans and Filipowski have chosen love. In the case of Markkanen, he referred when the two teammates were in Cleveland.
“It was my fifth year in the competition when I was there, so I already knew that I still learned a lot … Just chose his brain a little, so we created that relationship early and I am excited to have him back. I can hang around with him,” said Markkanen. “
Love is not the player he once was at his peak. In fact, he was far from, even when the Cavaliers took over Markkanen for the first time in 2021. At his peak, however, he was one of the best players in the competition and most feared Bigs. They may have spent only one season as teammates, but Markkanen learned from a former star and champion. The following year he became an All-Star for many of the same reasons why love ever was.
Chance? We think not.
Filipowski was compared with love growing up
During Jazz Media Day, Filipowski revealed that many compared him to love when he was a child. He also revealed how he thinks about becoming teammates.
“I remember that in the fourth grade I got K-Love, just because I was more of the spot-up shooter,” Filipowski told reporters. “It is really surreal to get the chance to learn from him and work with him every day. I look forward to learning what I can do from him.”
Filipowski is already an exciting prospect for jazz, but going to work next to an All-Star Big can help him sharpen his profession even more while continuing his NBA scenery.
Both Markkans and Filipowski are just as good as they are because they are unique big men who are best known because they are able to clean up the floor to go with their scoring bravery, and now they were perhaps the only player who made it one of his biggest staples to become an elite big man in the years 2010.
Markkanen is already a star when he is at its peak, while Filipowski is one of the more promising players in their youth movement. Now they have one of the current OGs of the NBA by their side who did a lot of what they do on the field when he was in his heyday.
It may not count too much, and love may not have been completed with Utah, but there is at least one point to keep him on the roster.
