The Frothing The three-year-old has placed three times in five starts and was a notable second to the highly regarded Transonic, who gave Tim Williams his 100th winner on debut at Ashburton during Cup week.
It certainly looked like a “next-upper” run and she certainly wasn’t missed by anyone, with a red-hot favorite at $1.60.
“She’s a tough little thing,” Holmes says of Spirit Of Atlanta, “she just keeps coming.”
The filly has drawn handily at two in Property Brokers Rangiora’s mobile pace “Toot for Tucker”.
“She’ll get out of the gate, so we’ll move on,” Holmes says.
“Her form line is good, so hopefully she’ll be good to go.”
Holmes will also ride two for Brent Weaver: Girlshavtime in Race 4 and Shadow Creek in Race 7.
“Brent says Girlshavtime is a bit of a work in progress and I quite like Shadow Creek. Three runs back it was a good run.”
That was a second at Oamaru on Oamaru 19.
Since then he has achieved a seventh place in Kaikoura and a fifth place in Addington.
The Property Brokers Rangiora “Pretty Gutsy” Mobile Pace looks like a wide open race, including Acento, Gimmesomelovin, Courage Reaction and Normie Stead.
“I would say we have a both-way chance,” Holmes said of Shadow Creek.
Holmes’ best horse at the moment is the six-time winning trotter Dreams Pat, although he is also a bit frustrated.
He won well at Kaikoura but broke out twice when well supported at Addington during cup week.
“He just doesn’t like being cooped up. If he’s in the front or the back, he’s fine.”
“He certainly has the motor, but he has to keep his feet on the ground.”
“He’s only four and he still has it all in front of him.”
At the moment Dreams Pat has some time off before heading south to the Omakau and Cromwell Christmas circuit.
The race in Rangiora starts at 2.40 pm.
