• Recovery contacts: Users can now add trusted contacts to help recover their accounts. If access is lost, these contacts will receive a verification code to assist in regaining access. Up to ten recovery contacts can be added, and each contact can only assist with one recovery attempt every seven days.
• Log in to mobile number: Google now allows users to log in with their mobile number, offering an alternative to passwords or backup emails. This new login option allows users to verify their accounts using their device’s screen lock or pattern.

Google Posts:

• Smarter protection against scams: Google Posts now includes features to protect users from phishing and malware-infected links. The Safer Links feature alerts users when a suspicious link is detected, blocking access until the user confirms it is safe.
• Key authentication for encrypted chats: For added security in end-to-end encrypted chats, users can now scan a QR code on their contact’s device to confirm the authenticity of the conversation. This feature ensures that conversations remain private and free from third-party interference. It is available on Android 10 and newer devices.

Increased awareness and education about scams

In addition to technical features, Google is expanding its offering scam awareness initiatives. The company continues its activities “Be ready for scams” program and collaboration with the National Cybersecurity Alliance to help users, especially those who are younger or older, avoid online fraud. These efforts are intended to teach users how to recognize and protect themselves from scams.
