We have officially reached American Thanksgiving, which marks an important date on the calendar for the NHL 67.3% of teams are on the inside of the playoff picture Come this time of year and have been qualifying for the postseason since 2014-15.
It’s a hotly debated point in the schedule, where the urgency around the league increases and in turn trade rumors start to heat up, so which teams are generating the most buzz?
The Nashville Predators are last in the NHL and all their veterans are turning heads; the Edmonton Oilers could finally make an upgrade in net, and the Toronto Maple Leafs are doing everything they can to make changes to their roster.
Just about everyone available in Nashville
The Predators are 2-6-2 in their last ten games and have fallen to the basement of the league.
The usual suspects in the case Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault continue to spin the rumor mill. both are open to joining a contender if it comes to that. Ryan O’Reilly, on the other hand, could be difficult to get out of Nashville unless they lower their current asking price. Juuse Saros has also been a hot topic of discussion, but his recent troubles have only made it harder to get a potential deal done.
Where does that leave superstars Roman Josi and Filip Forsberg, who would attract the most interest of all? They are more available than ever before, but there will be please note in low season.
Oilers connected with multiple goaltenders
Things are getting uglier in Edmonton, and after years of clinging to the hope that Stuart Skinner could be the man in goal, we’re reaching the end of that experiment. Tuesday’s 8-3 loss to Dallas might have been the breaking point, and insiders are wondering how long this relationship can continue.
With Skinner all but out the door, the Oilers have turned up the heat in their search for a new goaltender, which has led to successful trade talks with the Blues for Jordan Binnington, and a newly increased interest in Pittsburgh Penguins netminder Tristan Jarry.
Stan Bowman wanted to see out the 2025-2026 season without having to make such a move, but the results of 25 games have forced his hand, so expect action to be taken sooner or later.
Maple Leafs looking to make moves
Brad Treliving has said he wants to shake up his squad beyond the core group of star forwards. That takes the most interesting names out of the game, but there remains the possibility for an activity involving other quality options.
Morgan Rielly is notably not counted among Toronto’s untouchables, so the Maple Leafs may be willing to move the needle and feeling uneasy when the right deal becomes available.
The more likely trade candidates are Max Domi and Brandon Carlowhile offseason additions in Matias Maccelli and Dakota Joshua could already be in the area after both were scratched healthy on Wednesday night in Columbus.
