Late spike earns shock Progress Pace win for Fallout

A dramatic four-horse jump to the line decided Wednesday’s (26 November) $274,720 Group 2 progress pace for three-year-olds at Bally’s Dover, with outsider Fallout (Captain treacherous) causing a late surge to make the score 20-1.

Fallout

Driven by Tim Tetrick, Fallout settled into the middle of the pack from the second row, while big favorite Dandy Ideal worked hard early to move into the lead after a smooth 26-second opening quarter. The pressure continued as the leader rolled to half in 53, with Tetrick Fusion following before being forced to approach the final corner at three wide when that runner disappeared.

Dandy Ideal headed home and was heavily attacked from all sides: Captain Optimistic drove through on the inside, Madden Oaks went wide with speed and Fallout continued to build on the outside. In a thrilling finish, Fallout surged late to take Captain Optimistic by the narrowest of margins in 1:49.4, with Madden Oaks another head further in third. Dandy Ideal bravely stayed in fourth place.

Fallout, a son of Captain treacherous of Aria Hanover, is trained by Ron Burke for Burke Racing Stable, Larry Karr, Phil Collura and Knox Services Inc. The win was his sixth and took his earnings to $881,820, returning $42.20 to the winnings bag.
