Lando Norris hopes that McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri will get an Evenak reception from the British Grand Prix-Mermany at home when the title rivals bring their championship fight to Silverstone this weekend.
What increasingly seems to prove an All-McLaren-Duel for the driver’s championship, the papayen is now distributed with only 15 points in the rankings after Norris warmed up for his home race by beating title leader Piastri Piastri to victory in the Austrian Grand Prix.
Given his title-challenging status, Norris will certainly get particularly strong support at Silverstone-where he also has his grandstand in his name for the first time, a sold-out ‘land position’ of 10,000 strictness in Stowe Corner.
Sitting next to each other in the press conference on Sunday after the age of four, one two of the season, the Australia-Piastri was asked if he was worried about receiving a hostile reception at the home event of Norris.
Norris first answered and said: “I mean, I hope the part will not happen.
“The British fans normally accept very much for all of us and especially for us as McLaren.
“So I think the first point should be for all fans to embrace everyone and support everyone.”
Piatri had raced for woking-based McLaren since 2023, and then said that he had always received good support from the Silverstone fans, although it was recognized that it would still be only for Norris to enjoy the larger followers this weekend in particular.
“A few years ago they sang my name in the crowd, so that was unexpected,” said Piaastri.
“I am not sure if I will get that again, which is fair enough. I feel that the fans in general have been a bit nicer for us this year.
“We didn’t even have Max Verstappen -fans who hunted us today, so that was a nice change. They always accepted me very much.
“It is clear that I racet for a British team, and I think they are big fans of everything that papaya and that includes us both. I expect that there are many more Lando fans than I fans, but that is fair. It is also his home race, so I think it will be okay.”
British Grand Prix officials do not expect any problems either.
Stuart Pringle, director of Silverstone, said Sky Sports News: “I am absolutely sure. Everyone likes good sport here at Silverstone and that is a great battle at the front between those two teammates.
“We have expert fans here, people who love sport.
“Silverstone delivers time and time again. Seventy -five years of racing here and it continues to race with this modern generation of cars.”
‘A place where I want to win more than more differently’
The nature of his impressive victory for Piastri at the Red Bull Ring will probably make Norris a favorite to prevail again in Silverstone, where he finished the second and third in each of the last two seasons.
However, a first realistic chance of a home victory slipped last year due to strategy errors in a race of variable weather conditions.
Twelve months later while he prepares for his seventh British doctor, Norris said Sky Sports F1: “I am excited.
“It’s the best race of the year. I have my own grandstand and so, so enthusiastic.”
He added to the press conference: “I don’t think there is more busy. Of course it is a place where I want to win more than anywhere, but it changes nothing. It just brings a bit more a smile on my face every morning when I wake up.
“It probably distracts me in a good way than anything. Now I have my own grandstand and I have more reasoning for different things. More a positive distraction, I would say, more than a busy.”
