Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri start strongly at Silverstone, but Ferrari is in battle

The two practice sessions on Friday in Formula 1 British Grand Prix saw a well -known orange color on top of the timing blades. After the second end in FP1 Lando Norris was at the top of the table in FP2, while teammate Oscar Piastri finished third in the first session and fourth in the second.

But just behind them was some red, in the form of Ferrari’s duo by Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.

Hamilton, whose emotional victory at Silverstone was perhaps the most memorable moment of the F1 season 2024 a year ago, was at the top of the timing magazines in FP1 and finished third in FP2. As for Leclerc while he finished fourth in the early session, he was second behind Norris in FP2.

Both Norris and Piastri took note of Ferrari’s pace after the session.

“In general, the Ferraris has been very, very soon today and they will be tomorrow,” Norris told the official F1 channel after the second practice session. “So I think we have some work to do, to be honest.

“It might look a bit ‘too good’ today. Ferrari always comes in [FP3] Like last weekend. So I would say that I am satisfied today, but there is nothing to be too proud of. “

‘[Ferrari] Looked good, both in the qualifying wounds and the longer runs, “said Piastri.” So I think they are in fight this weekend, which is interesting to see. “

Ferrari brought a upgraded floor for the SF-25 to last week’s Austrian Grand Prix, who immediately paid dividends for the team. Leclerc finished third while Hamilton finished fourth, while they were up for Mercedes for a single point in the rankings of the constructors’ championship.

After the session, Leclerc Ferrari’s Racetempo identified as a force on the way to the weekend.

“Today it went pretty well, the feeling in the cockpit was good, but we still have some work to do on the car,” said Leclerc in the team’s medi report.

“In our qualifying trim we still seem to be a bit on the back foot, while we feel more comfortable with our racing pace. I really enjoy driving on this song and I am looking forward to tomorrow.”

On the other side of the garage, Hamilton was rather cheerful, both with the version and the atmosphere at Silverstone while he makes his British Grand Prix debut in Ferrari Red.

“It was really an exciting day. Quite incredible to be on the road at Silverstone in a Ferrari for the first time,” Hamilton added. “The car felt good in both sessions, although I got some traffic on my fastest round in FP2, so there is certainly time to find. It’s always great to be back here.

“This is the largest circuit in the world and absolutely my favorite. Great to see so many people here on a Friday. The atmosphere is just incredible.”

At other races this season, Ferrari started on the front, but then faded for the weekend on Friday. We will see if that trend continues, or whether the Scuderia can build on at the momentum and can deliver a strong performance to the British Grand Prix.
