The first practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix is in the books.
And as the majority of the 2025 Formula 1 season has been the case, the McLaren -Duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri was at the forefront.
Norris was at the top of the timing magazines at the Hungaroring with a round of 1: 16,052, only 0.019 seconds for his teammate Piastri.
The majority of the field was in the beginning aimed at the racing pace and revolved around the Hungaroring on the C4 medium tires. Piastri put an early benchmark of 1: 18,249 on that compound, with Norris beating him minutes later with a time of 1: 17,631. When the grid switched over the half mark from the session to the C5 -soft tires, Charles Leclerc jumped to the top of the timing blades and placed a round of 1: 16,791.
His time on top of the timing board was short -lived, because Norris soon surpassed him with his lap of 1: 16,052. Piastri took a few cracks when matching his teammate, first with a round of 1: 16.194, and then his best attempt came in at 1: 16.071.
It was not all clean from Norris, because at the end of the session he had a large lockup at bend 1:
Leclerc in the third place behind the McLaren -Duo, followed by Isack Hadjar and Lewis Hamilton to complete the top five. Hadjar was one of the few rookies that turned a strong session, when Oliver was bearman in P6 and Kimi Antonelli finished seventh.
On the other side of the Paul Aron schedule, ran instead of Nico Hülkenberg to meet a Rookie FP1 requirement, could only complete nine laps before a technical problem with his C45 brought his session early. Felipe Drugovich, who stands up for Fernando Alonso who spent the session because of a muscle problem in his back, ended in P16 for Aston Martin.
