Lamont Roach Jr. fights for majority draw despite broken hand in Texas Main Event

San Antonio, Texas – CEO of ProBox Gary Jonas congratulates co-promoted fighter Lamont Roach Jr. (alongside Lamont Roach Sr.’s NoXcuse Promotions) for his courageous performance on Saturday night PBC on Prime Video pay-per-view main event.

Roach, a former WBA super featherweight championconfronted WBC interim super lightweight champion Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz in front of 10,230 fans at the Frostbank Centre in San Antonio. Despite a third-round knockdown and a broken right hand, Roach fought through twelve rounds for one controversial majority draw.

A questionable score of 115-111 for Cruz was overruled by two scores of 113-113, with most observers believing Roach had won the closely contested fight.

“We are very proud of Lamont. It was a great fight and of course we felt like he won,” Jonas said.
“A draw in Texas in front of a huge pro-Mexican crowd confirms how well Lamont fought. What’s even more impressive is that Lamont fought the last half of the fight with one hand. He broke his right hand midway and showed tremendous heart.”

Roach made his first appearance at 140 pounds and showed statistical dominance at CompuBoxlanding 191 of 467 punches (41%), compared to Cruz’s 159 of 544 (29%). Roach connected on 49% of his power shots and landed more punches eight of the twelve roundswith the remaining rounds split evenly or in Cruz’s favor.

“We did an x-ray and it was confirmed that his hand was broken,” Jonas continued.
“So first, Lamont will have to let that heal properly, which doesn’t mean a quick turnaround for him. We still have a rematch clause with Tank (Gervonta Davis), but there’s a lot of uncertainty there. We want the fight if he’s willing and able to. We’d also like to see a rematch with Pitbull in DC. Lamont has been in two hostile environments in a row and has two draws. He deserves to fight in front of his fans next time. We’re going to do whatever it takes to make that happen when he comes back. of an injury.”
