Kypreos: Jets receive multiple calls on Cole Perfetti

The March 6 trade deadline is just a week away, and you know what that means. The coming days will be full of news, rumors and transactions, one of the busiest times of the season as the contenders look to improve and others try to make a final push for the play-offs.

There has been non-stop talk in recent months about defensemen Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn and their futures in Winnipeg, or the Jets could package the two into a deal, move Schenn for picks, or even work on an extension for Stanley. But another name quietly emerging with an uncertain future is forward Cole Perfetti.
Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos released his Trade Council 4.0 after the 2026 Winter Olympics, and here’s what he had to say about 24-year-old Perfetti:

“In Winnipeg, Logan Stanley’s name is out there and teams are also turning to winger Cole Perfetti. He would be Winnipeg’s most valuable trade chip outside of their biggest roster players. Perfetti is still two years away from UFA eligibility, so the Jets need to consider his future and decide if he’s worth a long-term extension soon. He’s off my list for now, but it’s a name I’ll be keeping a close eye on next week.”

Perfetti signed a two-year, $6.5 million contract on September 23, 2024, expiring after the 2025–26 season, when he will become a restricted free agent.

There is certainly some thinking to be done for GM Kevin Cheveldayoff.

The Whitby, Ont. Native was primed for a breakout season after recording 50 points (18G, 32A) in 82 games last year, but he, like many of his teammates, hasn’t had the year many expected. You could say that the ankle injury he suffered in preseason did him no favors, as he only made his season debut at the beginning of November. The loss of Nikolaj Ehlers on the second line also seemed to impact his production more than expected.

That said, he’s really stepped up his game before and after the Olympic break, including scoring the overtime winner in Vancouver on Wednesday night, so perhaps he’s starting to find his groove.

The former first-round pick has scored seven goals and 12 assists in 43 games this season.
