Kyle Harper became the newest driver who entered the 1000 club, where Always Changin delivered the milestone winning on Friday evening in Gloucester Park with an incredible $ 126 chances.
It was appropriate for him to get the milestone win on board a Maryann White Horse, with the stable stable in York that Harper ever gave his first ride as a teenager in Busselton, with a fall on the corner and saw that the race had to be run again, Harper joked that he still got a chance to get it right.
Win 999 was on board the Maryann White trained Brewery Lane and White noted that the 1000th should have been with her horse, but since then it has been revealed that it was technically his 1000th victory, with his first official winner disqualified because of a positive cotton swab at the start of his career.
Coming from a harness racing background and a successful one, it would be assumed that entering the game would be a natural progression for Harper, but for him it was anything but that as a young boy.
“I hated to work with the horses, every kind of work was not my cup of tea. I always hid when I got home from school, so I didn’t have to help the old man.
“I didn’t really know what I was going to do, I wasn’t interested until I left school in year 10 and didn’t really know what to do with life.
“I took it a bit for granted, because the old man was successful in those days and I just thought it would be there if I wanted it, so I didn’t really want it.
“So, when it wasn’t there, human nature, I went,” I want to do that now. “
“Donald was always the one who would do it, he thought it was great and started doing it from a young age, and I never shown much interest until I was 16 or 17.
Harper won his Reinsman’s license at the age of 17, Harper got his first leg in the industry when he went to work for Ross Olivieri
“He was good enough to give me an attempt, and I started my career there, he taught me a lot, and there I got my foot in the door.
“Although I was raised around horses and was really with horses, I didn’t really know the racing side because I wasn’t interested.”
Things have changed and his passion for horses and racing has become ten times, in which Harper finally eliminated his trainer license during the 2010/11 season, which means he won a total of 110 races, including two victories of group 1, with Franco Edward NZ de 2YO Golden Slipper and 2YO final within four weeks of each other.
Harper had incredible success with Bettor Fire NZ, with five group 2 wins and three victories of group 3, it was his victory on November 25, 2016 in a Heat of the Inter Dominion series here in Perth, where he defeated Smolda, who gave him some of the highest highs that a trainer and driver in the sport.
Without plans to take a step back from the pride, Harper is looking forward to the next 1000, and he said that training is again not the cards, but for now he enjoys driving and spending time with his small family of three.
