A group of Hollywood actors including Kristen Bell, Brian Cox and Malcolm McDowell say they had no idea a voiceover project they did 15 years ago would be repurposed for a Fox News religious podcast series.
The actors – who also include Sean Astin, John Rhys-Davies, Julia Ormond, Stacy Keach and Michael York – claim to be surprised that their voices work for a 2010 project titled: Truth and Life Dramatized Audio Biblewas repackaged by Gulfstream Studios as The life of Jesuswhich is distributed as a 52-part podcast for Fox News’ new Fox Faith brand.
Some fans reportedly took to social media to express their displeasure that the actors worked for Fox News. But representatives for several actors say they were unaware their 2010 work was being repackaged for Fox Faith until the podcast was announced this week.
“We were not aware until this week that these recordings were being redistributed as a podcast,” said a representative for actor Malcolm McDowell. told Entertainment weekly. “This has been long forgotten.”
Kirstin Bell’s representative told Rolling stone that she was only made aware of the new Fox Faith podcast the day before the series was announced when Fox Faith contacted her and asked her to promote the series.
Representatives for Brian Cox and John Rhys-Davies also told media they were unaware of the project until this week’s unveiling.
Gulfstream Studios, of course, owns the 2010 work and has all the legal rights to repackage it in any way it chooses. The email reportedly added, “we want it to feel like something produced more recently.”
