Kraken’s Berkly Catton to miss remaining games, leading to Olympic break – The Hockey Writers Seattle Kraken Latest News, Analysis & More

On Saturday, January 31, the Seattle Kraken announced that rookie forward Berkly Catton will miss the next three games heading into the Olympic break.

Catton was injured during the Kraken’s final home game on Thursday, January 29, when Seattle hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs. Oliver Ekman-Larsson delivered a heavy blow against the 20-year-old, causing him to fall hard to the ice. Catton started slowly, but managed to skate away under his own power. He went straight to the tunnel for evaluation and did not return.

Catton played his first NHL game on October 20 against the Philadelphia Flyers and recorded his first assist. He played in 40 games with the Kraken this season, recording 11 total points, including five goals and six assists. He scored his first goal on January 6 and didn’t stop there: he scored a second.

Catton was a key part of the Kraken’s bottom six. He was a force to be reckoned with alongside Ryan Winterton and Jacob Melanson, two younger players who are also getting their first real shot at NHL ice time.

With Catton out of the lineup, Tye Kartye will likely replace his absence. He has been a healthy scratch as of late, but currently has seven points in 37 games this season. Let’s hope that now that he returns to the lineup, he can properly fill the void left by Catton in this team.

Catton is expected to be re-evaluated after the two-week Olympic break. Hopefully he can rejoin the team soon and his recovery goes well.

The Kraken get ready to take on the Vegas Golden Knights at 7:00 PM PT.
