On Thursday, January 22, the Seattle Kraken recalled forward Jacob Melanson from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds. In addition to this move, they placed forward Ben Meyers on injured reserve (IR).
Melanson was called up by the Kraken earlier this season and played his first game on December 14. He has played a total of fifteen games so far and recorded four points, including one goal and three assists. He recorded his first NHL assist on December 29 and then two more in the previous two games. In the game that followed, on January 5, he scored his first NHL goal. He played four more games before being sent back to Coachella Valley. Since returning to the Firebirds, Melanson has played in three games and recorded two assists.
Meyers played in 31 games with the Kraken this season, scoring 11 points on five goals and six assists. He just recorded a huge assist on Vince Dunn’s goal against the New York Islanders on January 21. He finished the game last night, spending a total of 14:54 on the ice. He has been a great asset to the fourth line and his absence will be felt. Fortunately, Melanson also had a huge impact on the fourth line while on the team. Let’s hope he can pick up where he left off. He will likely end up back in the fourth row along with Ryan Winterton and Frederick Gaudreau.
The Kraken will host the Anaheim Ducks on Friday, January 23.
