The Ruben Amorim era is officially over and Manchester United’s first order of business is navigating a tough away match against Burnley.

Darren Fletcher will take charge and has already hinted at a possible return for both Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount.

Another player who could play against the Clarets is Kobbie Mainoo. The Englishman has been missing since the match against Aston Villa after suffering a calf injury.

The Carrington graduate has had a difficult time under the former head coach, having failed to start a single Premier League game all season.

Kobbie Mainoo and Amorim have never seen each other

Amorim’s system simply did not suit the England international, and constant rejections even saw him considering a permanent departure in January.

As revealed by The sunboth Amorim and Kobbie Mainoo were involved in a shouting match in Carrington towards the end of the previous season.

And his fortunes have never been the same since, with the 20-year-old behind the captain in the pecking order and not considered a defensive midfielder.

“Mainoo started 16 of Amorim’s 63 games and last played in the Premier League on May 11.

“Well placed sources say Mainoo and Amorim had a shouting match at Carrington at the end of last season.

“Mainoo’s family were not fans of Amorim – something his half-brother Jordan made abundantly clear with his ‘Free Kobbie Mainoo’ T-shirt stunt at Old Trafford last month.”

But with the Portuguese gone, Kobbie Mainoo could be one of the biggest benefactors, especially with interim leader Darren Fletcher preferring a third midfielder.

He had been training individually in recent days and the Carrington graduate rejoined team training on the day Amorim was dismissed.

And the fan favorite is in line to be part of the matchday squad at Turf Moor, provided he passes the matchday tests.

He has lasted longer than Amorim, now he can seize his chance and earn a place in the first team.
