Miles “Deuce” McBride became a father and an author, in short order.
The combination made the experiences more satisfying.
“It was a madman to release a children’s book and then let my daughter be born at the same time, in line,” said Knicks’ Guard in an interview with the post. “But it means so much more, only the fact that she grows up with a father who could do something like that.
“And hopefully more books will come after this.”
Summer 2025 was indeed a highlight-of-season for McBride. He and girlfriend, former West Virginia University -swimmer Ana Zortea, welcomed their daughter, Ace McBride.
The name works as a nice companion of the name of her father – Ace and Deuce.
Within days after the birth of ACE, McBride announced the release of his children’s book on Amazon, “Deuce: The Champion of Friendship”, a story of basketball and empathy as an universal force.
It was part of a mission inspired by Kobe Bryant, whose life after retirement followed an altruistic path aimed at teaching youth basketball via his Mamba Academy.
“It’s a bit interesting because I really wasn’t a Kobe fan that grew up,” said McBride. “And after he retired and started an inheritance from the court of giving back to the game, then I really became a fan of him.
“Because I was younger, I always wanted to grow up and be a role model for younger children. And I felt that a children’s book would be a good start to leave a good legacy.”

Still only 25 years old and his fifth season with the Knicks, McBride has visited the classrooms for public lectures. The next stop is at a school in his hometown Cincinnati, where McBride evolved from a Quarterback from Star High School to an NBA point guard.
Then McBride returns to NYC for performances in a Bronx School and Manhattan Hospital.
“We have had a number of people ordered, fairly large quantities of the book, people at the public lectures for their classrooms and for their schools,” said McBride. “So it’s pretty well received.”
With Knick’s training camp around the corner, McBride’s Book Tour will take a break soon.
But he has already been deported the next project.
And perhaps Ace, still only 3 months old, will be old enough to understand.
“I started to think about the next book and excited to see where the journey brings me,” said McBride.
