Klopp claims he was dismissed as ‘complete nonsense’ by Red Bull boss

Following claims that Jurgen Klopp’s position at Red Bull was not entirely secure, the group’s director Olivier Mintzlaff has dismissed it as ‘complete nonsense’.

Reports from the Salzburg News On Thursday morning, Red Bull claimed to be unhappy with the progress made since Klopp’s appointment as head of Global Soccer.

There were suggestions of frustration over his commercial activities as he is heavily involved in media work and sounded the alarm for the final round of the men’s biathlon relay at this month’s Winter Olympics in Italy.

It was further claimed that Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner had been lined up as a possible successor if the former Liverpool boss were to leave.

Red Bull chief: Klopp rumors “completely made up”

But when asked about the rumors surrounding Klopp’s future, Mintzlaff said Heaven Germany: “That is complete nonsense and completely made up.

“On the contrary, we are extremely satisfied with the work that Jürgen Klopp is doing.

“He invests a lot of time and effort, is in constant contact with our coaches and sports directors and continues to develop our Red Bull football philosophy in a sustainable way.

“We are convinced that he is the right man for this position. We are putting all our focus and energy into that.”

Red Bull has clearly invested heavily in Klopp, who works closely with technical director Mario Gomez, and where he is still under contract 2029.

Klopp has been continuously linked with a return to management, which wasn’t helped by the interview given by his agent Marc Kosicke Transfer market earlier this month.

Kosicke revealed that there had been opportunities to manage the English or American national teams, while requests from Chelsea and Man United were rejected outright.

But he admitted the 58-year-old “couldn’t always say no” to taking over as Germany boss.

“Jurgen feels very connected to this country,” said Kosicke, who has represented Klopp throughout his career and is considered one of his closest friends.

“The question doesn’t even arise at this point. I don’t think he feels like he has to do it at least once.”

“He rather feels an obligation, that he couldn’t always say no to the job.”

Klopp took on the role of Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull on January 1, 2025, and so far no club under his leadership has lifted silverware – but that’s not a sign of his own handiwork.

The German will return to the dugout at Anfield next month as assistant to Sir Kenny Dalglish when Liverpool Legends take on Dortmund Saturday March 28.
