In today’s rumor rundown we look at how the Seattle Kraken is looking for a “King’s Ransom” if another team wants to acquire Jared McCann. Elsewhere there have been some updates about the Hockey 2028 World Cup and what that could look like. Finally, there have been some updates about the largest remaining limited free agents and the best unlimited free agents from 2026.
Cracking hanging on mccann
In the course of the summer the name of McCann came up a few times, but nothing really came out, and there was not much chatter. Rob Simpson van Seattle Hockey Insider Reported: “Without a doubt, the New Jersey Devils were at least one NHL team that was told earlier this summer by the Seattle Kraken that Forward Jared McCann was not available.”
McCann has been an integral part of De Kraken since their expansion concept. He is a leader on and out of the ice, has scored more than 100 goals over the past three seasons and has a lot of value in the competition.

Simpson said it would cost a ransom of a king to Pry McCann away from the cracking, and after he had noticed the Devils as an interested team, it mentioned that Jim Birger Van Rg.org stated that a first round pick should be in the package, as well as some candidates, including people like Dawson Mercer, Seamus Casey, Simon Nemec and another top perspective.
NHL is moving forward with 2028 World Cup without IIHF
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) supervises almost all international hockey, with the world championship, the world championship and the Olympic Games that are the largest tournaments. The IIHF had no involvement in the Uber-successful 4 countries face-off, and with Gary Bettman and the NHL who promised the hockey world cup to return, it was reported by Darren Deureger That the NHL intends to move forward without the involvement of the IIHF.
Dreger also stated that the NHL will work directly with every hockey federation in compiling the tournament. Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly was in the last episode of 32 thoughts and spoke about the upcoming plans.
The World Cup will be a tournament in the middle season in February 2028. It will consist of eight individual countries without hybrid teams (team of North America), and there will be a European host city and one in North America. There are still a few things to find out, but Daly states that there should be an official announcement by the end of the current season.
Updates about RFA and awaiting UFA -Extensions
Also in the latest episode of 32 ThoughtsElliote Friedman made some quick notes about the coming free agents for 2026 and the extensions that some of them are expected to receive.
On Marco Rossi, Friedman stated that it was just logical for both parties to get this done before it ended with Rossi Missing Training Camp or even Game promotion. He said that although he is not sure whether Rossi remains for the three -year duration of the contract, when both the team and the player look back on the deal, it was the right one to do.
As far as Mason McTavish is concerned, Friedman said he saw some comments about how McTavish and his camp cannot like the Rossi deal, but he thinks they are two very different situations. He stated that the ducks really want to keep him, but they just can’t come to terms. Friedman refers to Anaheim Ducks General Manager Pat Verbeek, Jeff Soloman, who handles negotiations over the ducks, and McTavish’s agent Pat Morris as “grinding machines”, and that it is no surprise that it takes a little longer.
At Connor Zary he believes that the team and the player want to sort things out, but they are a difference of opinion about what the contract should look like.
With the upcoming unlimited free agents before 2026, Friedman mentions that players are now going back to their cities, there will be more opportunity to sit face-to-face with the clubs and to do an extension. He mentioned Kirill Kaprizov and the Minnesota Wild, Jack Eichel and the Vegas Golden Knights, Kyle Connor and the Winnipeg Jets, Alex Tuch and the Buffalo Sabres, and of course Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. They will all wait to see which Domino falls first and let the market play for this new wave of free agents with the rising salary limit.
