A New York Post research by Mollie Walker has detailed serious allegations against Ottawa Senators (now with the Belleville Senators) Arthur Kaliyev, who is accused of stealing more than $50,000 from his ex-girlfriend to fund what she describes as an unaddressed gambling addiction.
Model Lauren Mochen everything that during a three-year relationship, Kaliyev used her PayPal account, opened financial accounts in her name and sent fraudulent checks, leaving her thousands in debt. The report includes banking information, text messages and a police incident report from Michigan, where Mochen has filed a theft charge.
The After also cites reports claiming Kaliyev owes tens of thousands to former Los Angeles Kings teammates and staff, with defenseman Drew Doughty allegedly referring to approximately $50,000 in unpaid debts from “fines, fees and betting.” Sources claim that Kaliyev’s trade from Los Angeles last season was postponed until debts were paid off.
Walker writes: “About a month before the Kings waived Kaliyev in January, former Los Angeles general manager Rob Blake approached Kaliyev’s longtime agent Ian Pulver about the forward still having to tip Kings coaches from the season before, according to a well-placed source.” The article adds that Blake became frustrated when he found out that Kaliyev still hadn’t been paid, so he told both Pulver and Kaliyev that “he would not part with the player or trade him until he had settled those he owed…” Mochen allegedly paid Kaliyev so he could cover the trainers’ tips. Only then did the Kings place Kaliyev on waivers on January 5.
Pulver declined to comment on the gambling allegations but did not deny that he was never paid by the player. He said: “I have no comment on anything relating to a private or personal matter with my client.”
The NHL reportedly investigated the allegations against Kaliyev and responded that there was “no substantiation that anything Kaliyev did violated our rules or applicable law.”
Mochen says she plans to press further charges, while Kaliyev – now with Ottawa’s AHL affiliate in Belleville – has not publicly responded to the allegations.
It is important to note that all allegations remain unproven and have not been tested in court.
