Time is a good friend of Kingaroy (Majestic son) who won yesterday’s thank you, Bill & Helen Bishop & Canty Equine Clinic DRAF more than 2600m at Addington starts only his fifth Harness Racen.
It was also the second victory of Rakaia coach/driver Jason Ford as a trainer and his 25th in the Sulky.
“He has had enough time, but it seems worth it,” said Ford.
“He stayed good.”
Kingaroy started well to be parked early. Ford finally found a cover of the 1300m where they received a delay until the 700m when Ford three seemed wide to make his move.
Accompanied by racing favorite something else at the top of the straight, the two road from the rest of the field, where Kingaroy and Ford are determined to fight against the line, hold on to win something else, with seven lengths back to the rest led by Mollys Remedy.
“A year ago he couldn’t trot. But he just gets better and better. Hopefully there are still a few races in him.
Ford believes ahead and believes that the majestic son will thrive six-year-old in the coming spring and summer grascircuits around Canterbury-from which the first is only a month away, planned for September 7 in Methven.
“He has incredible ways.”
“I think he will be better on the grass.”
Kingaroy Replay
Kingaroy is bred and raced by Jason’s father Allan Ford – who has driven Ford the majority of his winners.
“It’s the last foal from the mare. The mare couldn’t foal, so the vet said that I had to walk away from them, but I didn’t do that. So we lost the mare but kept the foal and this is him.”
Other highlights on the program saw a few license holders etching closer to milestone victories. A Double in the Sulky for Ashburton driver John Morrison (Arizonawildcat and the Bettor Major) brings his career to 399, while the training of Brendon Hill brings his training victories on 295 with ultimate deposition, and Olivia Thornley’s Winning Drive brings to Didley’s Wins.
