NY Chaplainsencies Nancy Kelly Volunteer Award
NYRA on behalf of the NY Race Track Chaplainsency
OZONE PARK, NY – The New York Race Track Chaplainsency today announced the founding of the Nancy Kelly Volunteer Award that will be handed out annually to a person or people for excellent volunteer efforts to support the organization.
Kelly, an old volunteer and supporter of the New York Race Track Chaplainincy, served as president and vice president of the NY Chaplainincy after he withdrew from her long and prominent career at the Jockey Club. Nancy died after a long illness on February 9, 2024.
The first receiver will be Kim Weir, the director of strategic growth for therapeutic horses of Saratoga, and an active volunteer at the Chaplainscy.
“As she did with every aspect of her life, Nancy Kelly suggested the gold standard for volunteering in the chapelcy and we thought this was a suitable way to honor her memory and her inheritance,” said Humberto Chávez, the executive director and main chaplain of the Nyrtca.
“Kim Weir is deeply involved in numerous other activities in the Racecommunity, but always finds time to help us in an extraordinary way and this price acknowledges that dedication.”
Weir will be honored during lunch in the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs, NY on November 11, 2025. The master of ceremonies has long been NYRA broadcaster Tom Durkin.
A resident of San Diego, with degrees from the University of Virginia and the College of William & Mary, previously served the director of donor involvement for the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation.
She now lives in Saratoga Springs with her husband Bobby.
The NY Race Track Chaplainincy serves the NY Backstretch and Farming Communities or Belmont Park, Aqueduct Racetrack and Saratoga Race Course that offers enrichment programs for children, teenagers, social facilities, recreational and educational services.
Additional information, including tickets and sponsorship for the event, can be found on www.rtcany.org.
