Troy’s Hannah Kim tops the points list for junior girls 15 and under in 2025

FARMINGTON HILLS – Hannah Kim of Troy said she had a rough start to the golf season because she let the pressure of competition get to her.

“I got nervous at the beginning of the year, especially in the last days of the tournaments,” said the 13-year-old eighth-grader from Boulan Park Middle School.

“I told myself I had to win this. At the end of the year I played better. At the GAM Junior Invitational I was very relaxed. I wanted to win, but I realized that if I win, I win, and if I lose, I lose. I just tried to play well and having a good mentality allowed me to win that day. I plan to tell myself to relax more in the future.”

Kim’s game showed that she has a bright future ahead of her. She won the GAM Junior Stroke Play Championship and capped the season with victory in the 15 and Under Division at the GAM Junior Invitational. She also was runner-up to champion Cameron Baker of Novi in the 15-and-under Division of the Michigan Girls’ Junior Amateur.

These performances propelled her to the top of the Junior Girls’ Points List, and she has been named GAM 15-and-under Junior Girls’ Player of the Year, Alex Clark, director of tournament management, announced today.

Player of the Year point totals can be found in a drop-down menu on the PLAY tab on GAM.org. Carl’s Golfland is the presenting sponsor of the points lists.

In recent weeks, GAM announced Dearborn’s Elayna Bowser as Women’s Player of the Year, Williamston’s Caleb Bond as Men’s Player of the Year, Lewiston’s Lori Schlicher as Senior Women’s Player of the Year, Novi’s Mike Anderson as Senior Men’s Player of the Year, Jackson’s Greg Zeller as Super Senior Player of the Year, Okemos’ Alena Li as Junior Girls’ Player of the Year and Grand Rapids’ JP Levan as Player of the Year Year for Junior Boys. The Player of the Year for Boys 15 years and younger will be announced next Monday.

Kim said it is an honor to be Player of the Year.

“It’s clear that a lot of people in the division have worked hard for this,” she said. “I’m happy that I came out on top. I think it showed how good I can be.”

She said the best part of her game is her tee shots.

“I always get it where I want it,” she said. “I have so much confidence on the tee box. I get a little insecure when it comes to my short game and my putting. That’s the area where I can improve the most and that’s what I’ve been working on and what I plan to improve on next season.”

Kim, a Youth on Course Michigan member of the GAM, finished the season with 1,105 Player of the Year points in a close race with Baker, a member through her family at Barton Hills Country Club. Baker finished second with 1,032.5 points.

Sistine Charnelet of Bloomfield Hills and Youth on Course Michigan, who had 650 points, Anika Srivastava of Okemos and Youth on Course Michigan, who had 632.5 points, and Saisha Patil of Okemos and Youth on Course Michigan, who had 383 points, rounded out the top five.
