Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor have been rivals for years. One need look no further than the ugly post-fight brawls that erupted in the aftermath of UFC 229 over seven years ago. After Nurmagomedov locked up a fourth-round submission against McGregor, a bigger fight began.

The ensuing fight that erupted in the aftermath of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s lightweight championship defense is certainly not something to be forgotten by any stretch of the imagination. In the aftermath of this brawl, which began with the then-champion throwing his mouthguard in his opponent’s direction, Nurmagomedov was suspended for nine months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Conor McGregor was given a six-month suspension by the NSAC. Both the champion and the challenger were fined for their role in the October 2018 skirmish, with Khabib Nurmagomedov fined $500,000 (USD) and McGregor fined $50,000. In Nurmagomedov’s case, his ban could have been shortened pending his permission to participate in an anti-bullying advertising campaign. No commercial was ever shot.

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor see rivalry reignited on social media on Thanksgiving night

Although Thursday is Thanksgiving Day in the United States of America, there is no chance that Khabib Nurmagomedov, who retired in October 2020 with an undefeated record of 29-0, will break bread with one of his rivals at the dinner table. He certainly won’t break bread with Conor McGregor.

On the day before Thanksgiving, Khabib Nurmagomedov went to work X (formerly known as Twitter) to fan the flames of this long-standing rivalry with ‘The Notorious’. Although McGregor deleted his original post, Nurmagomedov’s response remained. Spoiler alert: it got intense quickly.

“You absolute liar,” Khabib Nurmagomedov wrote. “You will always try to darken my name after you were destroyed that night, but you will never achieve that! Yeah, good boys don’t do that.”

Nurmagomedov is going after McGregor over claims he took buyers via internet daddy auction

Recently, “The Eagle” organized an online auction via the Telegram messaging service. At the auction, he sold digital forms of Papakha headdresses, like the ones he would wear as he walked into the legendary Octagon.

Papachas are headdresses made of sheep’s wool, worn by men in Nurmagomedov’s home country of Russia. Due to the popularity of Khabib Nurmagomedov, the Papakha headdress has become common.

In his elimination of Conor McGregor via social media, he defended himself and the use of the Papakha.

“They do not create exclusive digital gifts with real-time value, which you can share with your friends and family,” Nurmagomedov wrote on the social media network. “Gifts in the shape of a papakha hat symbolizing the traditions and culture of the Dagestan people. Traditions and culture that [are] walking slowly across this world whether you like it or not!”

Khabib Nurmagomedov wins again

Although this latest controversy played out on social media rather than in the cage, the winner of this Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor fight will be the former. Anyone who attacks someone else for defrauding people, especially if it is done without any merit or basis, will be at fault 100 percent of the time.

Khabib Nurmagomedov, just like seven years ago at pay-per-view, held his own against Conor McGregor’s attacks and did a masterful job of defending himself. If this had been a real MMA fight, the judges’ scorecards would have read like this: 50-47 across the board in favor of Nurmagomedov.

This is a man who has always been known as a proven winner. On Wednesday, he raised his hand again for victory. He defended himself and Dagestan’s culture with expert precision, something worthy of hearty applause from MMA fans around the world.
