Kevin Durant Talks Trade from Suns, confirms Block of Trade to Warriors

Houston Rockets Forward Kevin Durant was a recent guest at the game Sports Business Summit. During his appearance, Durant spoke about the process of traded from the Phoenix Suns. Durant admitted that he was injured when he discovered that the suns shop prior to the Handelsdeadline of February.

“Initially I was a bit upset because I had the feeling that we built a solid relationship, me and the Phoenix Suns,” Durant said. “And to hear that of another party was a bit disturbing, but that’s just the name of the game. So I came across so quickly and tried to find out what the next steps were.”

Durant confirmed that he and his representatives did what they could do to block an exchange for the Golden State Warriors at the Deadline.

“I heard that Golden State was in the mix around the Trade Deadline, but then (Durant’s business partner and manager) Rich (Kleiman) came into play, and those relationships that we built in the competition and also played in Golden State,” said Durant. “We could tell them that they should keep it a bit.”

Durant said that after he had been made available for the Trade Deadline, he knew that trade interviews would pick up again when the low season started.

“Because I was on the market in February, when there is also a trade deadline, people just saw a bit of how their seasons took place and what they needed for their teams,” Durant said. “We knew that we would visit that again around the summer, and Houston jumped up a bit, and it happened pretty quickly from there.”
