The committee had raised the issue of computers supplied by KEONICS through a third party supplier that did not meet specifications, and in particular did not have cameras. Commission sources said if the cases were to be heard online, the commission’s work would be seriously affected if the computers did not meet specifications. Of the 22 computers delivered, only five met the specifications.
In response, KEONICS said that the 17 all-in-one computers would be replaced with computers that met the specification at the earliest.
Show-cause notice
Meanwhile, it is learned that KEONICS has sent a show-cause notice to the supplier Intellic Systems, which had supplied desktops to the committee.
The notice stated that a different/non-installed model of all-in-one computers has been supplied to the Karnataka Information Commission in place of the expanded and approved model. This constitutes a clear deviation from the contract and a violation of the approved terms, tender conditions and prescribed technical specifications, the report said.
Response from supplier
The supplier promised to supply the specified model and said that as the empaneled model was out of stock, a more expensive model was supplied that offered superior processing speed and improved overall performance.
Due to the prevailing global supply constraints and delays, the stock of the specified model was not received within the stipulated time frame and, therefore, delivery of high-end models had started taking into account the delivery timeline, the seller said in the response. The seller further said that after learning that the camera was not built-in, the installation of 17 computers was not carried out.
