Kawhi Leonard will not complete the current road trip with the Los Angeles Clippers as the team announced he has been sent back to Los Angeles for treatment on his injured left knee.
Leonard will miss the final two games of the trip, with the Clippers taking on Washington on Monday and Chicago on Tuesday.
Leonard missed Friday’s overtime win in Toronto because of a sprained right ankle and a left knee contusion, and lingering irritation in that knee remains a concern.
He will be re-evaluated on Wednesday once the team returns home.
According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, the injury is not considered serious and stems from a Jan. 10 win in Detroit.
The 33-year-old previously missed 10 games in November due to foot and ankle injuries, and Los Angeles has finished 3-8 this season without him.
When available, Leonard has fueled the Clippers’ turnaround as the team has risen from a 6-21 start to an 18-23 record and currently sits in 10th place in the Western Conference.
In 30 games this season, Leonard is averaging a career-high 28.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.2 steals per game while shooting .499/.399/.941.
With Leonard out, two-way players Kobe Sanders and Jordan Miller are expected to see more minutes.
It is expected that Kawhi Leonard will miss at least two more games due to irritation in his knee. Story: https://t.co/y0HTA1StSe
