The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the most important defense research agency in India, carries out tests from the native Kaveri Jet Engine in Russia and is planning to use it to feed the Made in India Long-Range Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle).

The Kaveri engine undergoes detailed tests in Russia and there are still about 25 hours of tests to be performed on it. The slots must be given by the authorities, Defense Officers have informed India Today TV.

The engine is planned to be used to feed the indigenous UCAV project, they said. The interest in the Kaveri engine has been revived, because there is a continuous trend in the Evian Media, who asks the government for #fundkaveri Engine Project.

The Kaveri engine was planned to be developed by the DRDO for the native light fighter plane (LCA), but due to delays in the program, the fighter plane had to be driven by the American-404 engines.

The GE-404 is used to provide power to the 32 LCA Mark 1s and the Twin-Seater trainer versions. The 83 LCA Mark 1AS are also set to be powered by the GE 404s, but the plan is delayed by issues in the stocks by the American company. Asked if the Kaveri engine could still be used to feed the LCA, the officials said there were plans to place the Kaveri on one of the LCA aircraft and present its possibilities.

The DRDO is also working on working with a foreign company for the development and production of a more powerful engine for the futuristic aircraft, including the Mark 2 versions of the fifth generation of Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA). India is in conversation with several companies, including those from France, the UK and the US. The decision in this context is expected to be taken soon.

The Indian indigenous programs for fighter jets may see a reduction in import and have indigenous platforms for the Indian Air Force. The Kaveri engine is a indigenous turbo man engine in India, developed by the gas turbine research establishment (GTRE) under the DRDO. The move is part of the urge of India to self -reliance in defense technology, aimed at reducing dependence on foreign suppliers for aircraft engines.
