Kamaru Usman reiterates desire to challenge Islam Makhachev for the UFC welterweight title

UFC legend Kamaru Usman has once again made it crystal clear that he wants a title fight against Islam Makhachev.

Currently, Islam Makhachev is the UFC welterweight champion. However, a few years ago, Kamaru Usman was the king at 170 pounds, and he will forever be remembered as one of the most impressive (and important) champions in the history of the division.

Following his recent victory over Joaquin Buckley, Kamaru Usman announced that he wants another shot at becoming world champion in the welterweight division. That would obviously mean opposing Islam Makhachev, with whom he has had a close bond over the years due to their mutual relationship with Ali Abdelaziz.

In one recent interviewKamaru Usman said the following about the possible superfight.

Kamaru Usman on the confrontation with Islam Makhachev

“It’s no secret how I feel about Islam, I love Islam. I think he’s a great champion, but I also feel like I’m the best test in the division for him. It’s almost a little weird and surreal that I have to sell myself on my skill level and on who I am and what I’ve done in this sport.”

“It’s a little weird, but that’s the name of the game right now. It’s what you’ve done for me lately. So hopefully the UFC sees that and gives me the opportunity to go out and show them once again that I’m still the best in the world.”

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is an incredible fighter and has done great things over the course of his career. Unfortunately, if he wants to take on someone like Makhachev, he’ll have to put in the performance of his life to get the win.
