Kaik Brito scored a highlight reel knockout of Ronald Paradeiser to capture the vacant welterweight title Octagon 84 on Saturday.
Brito nearly secured a first-round finish, taking Paradeiser’s back and nailing a tight rear-naked choke. But just when it looked like the tap-out was imminent, Paradeiser stayed calm and fought the hold, freeing himself from the maneuver.
Desperate to maintain control, Brito switched from back control to full mount, but that allowed Paradeiser to fight his way off the mat and take Brito’s back into the process. Paradeiser ultimately failed to take advantage of the position and instead ate a sneaky spinning fist from Brito just before the end of the round.
Brito landed another big spinning attack in the second, but it was what he did in the third that would make him a world champion again.
Just past the minute mark of the middle round, Brito connected with a booming, spinning back elbow with Paradeiser on wobbly legs. Brito came forward and forced Paradeiser into the fence before unleashing another spinning fist that hit clean and sent his opponent crashing to the canvas.
With Paradeiser clearly unable to defend himself, the referee quickly intervened and ended the fight.
Official result: Kaik Brito def. Ronald Paradeiser via KO (spinning back fist) at 1:18 of round 3 to win the Oktagon MMA Welterweight Championship.
