West Ham United has competition from Juventus for Lecce star Tiago Gabriel, according to him Football insider.
The Hammers are interested in the 20-year-old Portuguese Under-21 international centre-back, but Serie A giants Juventus are in the lead.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke said: “Tiago Gabriel is someone who has popped up on the radar.
“He’s only 20 years old so it could be a bit of a gamble on West Ham’s part if they bring him in and put him in the team straight away.
“Ideally I think West Ham want someone who can come straight into the team and make a good start in the Premier League because that’s what they need in the second half of the season if they want to get themselves out of trouble.
“Tiago Gabriel, I’m sure he’s someone West Ham have been looking at. Brentford have also been mentioned but it seems reports in Italy suggest Juventus are the current frontrunners for the player.”
“The Bianconeri would be hopeful that they could win the race for his signature if push comes to shove in January.
“Lecce, I am sure that if they got a good offer for the central defender, they would not stand in his way and would also let him leave.
“So let’s wait and see what happens with him. But there is no doubt that West Ham will be looking for defensive reinforcements in January.”
