Hughes, who spent almost a decade shaping Bournemouth’s recruitment strategy before arriving at Anfield, maintains strong relationships at the south coast club, connections that have now put Liverpool in the strongest position to land the dynamic Ghanaian forward in January.

Sources close to the negotiations say Liverpool are clear favorites to sign Semenyo this winter.

The forward was one of Bournemouth’s best players in 2025 and his performances have caught the attention of all the biggest clubs in England.

Liverpool have genuine interest in Antoine Semenyo

Liverpool view him as a high-ceiling asset capable of operating across the frontline, with his versatility seen as a major asset as they prepare for a transition period in their attack.

With Mohamed Salah leaving the club to compete in the AFCON next year, the Reds are looking to sign Semenyo as a player who can contribute to their attack in the Egyptian star’s absence.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are also admirers of the Ghanaian international but face a more complicated path to securing a deal.

While the Gunners do not have a cash flow problem, they are believed to be operating close to UEFA’s updated Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) rules, which limit expenditure relative to revenue.

Without meaningful player sales in January, Arsenal are at risk of breaching the FFP thresholds, making a bid for Semenyo much more difficult unless expenses are sorted out first.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have financial flexibility and are prepared to take swift action if an agreement can be reached.

It is believed that Hughes’ familiarity with Bournemouth’s internal structure will ease negotiations, and the Cherries are open to a sale at the right price, although they will demand full value from one of their key players.
