Junior driver Mitch Ford will start the Launceston Harness Racing program on Friday with a lead of one win, and he is about to achieve a milestone victory.
Ford has driven 198 winners in his career, which started in the 2021 season.
“I have had a lot of support in my career, it is clearly very early, and to get the support I had here in Tassie, and when I was also in Sydney, I am grateful for.
“I had a good relationship with (group 2 winner) Iylac Pakaria, but I drove a few winners in different states, which has been good,” Ford said.
Ford has a ride in seven of the eight races in Launceston, Rating Rocks Roy in the Read Orchard Stakes (1680m) as his best chance of the night.
The 12-year-old gelding was second in Hungry Hippo on Sunday and was a Hobart winner three points back.
“He flew.
“He couldn’t get a draw. He comes one, and it’s just a small field, and the last time he was in a small field, he could come over it.
“Hopefully I can’t see with the right journey why he can’t win anymore,” said the driver.
Ford believes that he has a stronger book by Drives in Hobart on Sunday.
This season, Ford achieved 36 wins and a lead of one win on Jordan Chibnall, who achieved her 200th career victory in Hobart two weeks ago.
The Launceston program is shown on Sky Racing 2 and starts at 17:18.
