Jorge Masvidal believes he is a better striker than Max Holloway

Jorge Masvidal wants to fight Max Holloway. Masvidal (35-17) won the inaugural UFC BMF title against Nate Diaz via doctor’s stoppage in 2019. Masvidal then lost his next few fights and the BMF title lost relevance for a while. Holloway (27-8) became the next BMF champion in 2024 with an iconic knockout win over Justin Gaethje. Holloway has since defended his title against Dustin Poirier and will look to defend it against Charles Oliveira at UFC 326 on March 7 in Las Vegas.

Holloway recently said the BMF belt was a “joke” before he snagged it. Holloway claims that everyone has wanted to challenge him for the BMF title since he won it. Holloway’s comments did not sit well with the first-ever BMF champion, Masvidal. Although Masvidal likes Holloway as a fighter, he swears ‘Blessed’ won’t have an easy night against him or Diaz. Despite Holloway being known for his striking performances, ‘Gamebred’ believes he is better than the former featherweight champion and wants to prove the same in a fight.

‘I just think I’m better’

“I like Max as a fighter – that’s his opinion,” Masvidal told Ariel Helwani. “I think he’s one of the best fighters to do it. He’s a dog going in there, but whether it was me or Nate fighting Max, it wouldn’t be his best night either… I’d like to fight Max just as a stylistic matchup. I think he’s a great stand-up fighter – I just think I’m better.”Masvidal lost four straight after winning the BMF title and has not competed since 2023. Masvidal recently teased a return to the White House in June. Meanwhile, Holloway made an unsuccessful featherweight title bid against Ilia Topuria after winning the BMF title. Although Holloway’s BMF title was not on the line, Topuria still declared himself BMF champion. Holloway has since bounced back by defending the title against Poirier.
