With Nic Claxton of the Brooklyn Nets unavailable on Friday due to a personal matter, the opening in the rotation created an expanded role for Day’Ron Sharpe.
Sharpe rose to the occasion and delivered one of Brooklyn’s stronger performances of the evening. He finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks while making his first start of the season.
Head coach Jordi Fernandez highlighted Sharpe’s effort level while acknowledging the physical adjustment that comes with a sudden jump in playing time.
“One thing we know: Day’Ron is going to play extremely hard,” Fernandez said, via Brian Lewis of the New York Post.
He added that increasing the limited number of minutes to almost 30 will require careful management, with the situation viewed as both a valuable opportunity for Sharpe and something the team must monitor closely.
Sharpe’s performance also has implications for the future, as the Brooklyn Nets have a team option worth $6.25 million on his contract for next season, making his ability to effectively intervene when called upon particularly notable.
