Some MLB fans were caught off guard Saturday when the Jonas Brothers took the stage midway through the Dodgers’ eventual Game 2 victory over the Blue Jays in the World Series.
Performing ‘I Can’t Lose’ as part of the ‘Stand Up to Cancer’ initiative, which sees players, staff and spectators holding up signs to pay tribute to those affected by cancer, the pop trio were featured after the fifth inning – with the score tied at one apiece – leading some on social media to express bewilderment at the timing of the in-game show, not the campaign yourself.
“As moving as this moment was… in the middle of the World Series Game 2 tie? And then randomly have the Jonas Brothers singing???” an X user posted.
“Jonas Brothers playing between innings of the World Series was not on my bingo card,” another user wrote on X.

“For anyone wondering, that wasn’t new. The MLB does this ‘stand up to Cancer’ pause during the All-Star games and at some point during the #WorldSeries,” X user @JacobPacheco6 wrote in an instant of a similar event during the MLB All-Star Game in July. “Touching moment. But the Jonas Brothers were super random.”
The ‘Stand Up to Cancer’ placard moment in the stadium has been an MLB tradition according to the league’s official website.
The Jonas Brothers, consisting of siblings Kevin Jonas, 37, Joe Jonas, 36, and Nick Jonas, 33, honored their father, Kevin Jonas Sr., who was a cancer survivor.
The Dodgers, who were defeated 11-4 in Game 1, closed the second game in Toronto with a 5-1 win at the Rogers Centre.
Star pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto struckout eight in his second consecutive complete game.
