UFC Light Heavyweight Johnny Walker lives it as a professional hunter while he prepares to head UFC Shanghai against Mingyang Zhang on Saturday.
“It is what I was born. I feel, when the cage is close behind me, I feel that it is a primal feeling. Something in me wants to wake up. Makes me very happy, make me free and of course take care of my family,” Walker said reporters on Wednesday.
Walker’s (21-9) Primal feeling does not stop just being a hunter. When asked if he would test the struggle of Zhang in the cage on Saturday, he had a very strict answer.
“No. I’m a striker and I’m going to strike him,” he said.
“He looks like me a few years ago. As soon as you go higher at a higher level and lost.”
The Brazilian indeed sees himself in his Chinese opposite. Zhang has been in a tear in recent years before he reached the UFC. Although he has been dealing with a high -level competition since he arrived in the promotion, he still has to taste a defeat.
“I see myself when I was young and everyone hit. Trying to understand what is happening,” he said.
“He is also a striker. It is what happened in my career. I (defeated) many boys and when I reached the top, I was not yet (on that) level, and I am losing. So he is just too young, I believe I have to defeat myself now. He needs more experience. I know he is a challenge. It will be a big test for him.”
