Innovative , Lee’s little girl And Warm-up – the top three finishers from last month’s John C. Harris Stakes (G3T) – will compete for the Santa Anita Park enter again in the $100,000 Autumn Miss Stakes (G3T) on October 26.
Little Red Feather and Sterling Racing’s Innovative closed with a rush to capture the John C. Harris for her first stakes win. Despite dropping it to 6 1/2 for the Harris, the Complexity filly got up in time for a neck score over Lee’s Baby Girl and Warming in a triple blanket finish at the wire.
Innovative, a two-time winner going two turns for trainer Phil D’Amato, stretches to a mile for the Autumn Miss. Jockey Richard Gonzalez, the filly’s pilot in all seven of her career starts, gets the call.
D’Amato will also saddle the winner of the last-out award Smooth for the same connections. Slick is the co-highest Equibase Speed Figure in the field, posting a 105 in her September 28 win.
Lee’s Baby Girl, trained by Carla Gaines, was caught late in the Harris after leading much of the way. The daughter of Malibu Moon, who claimed for $50,000 three starts ago, is winless at the mile distance after seven attempts.
Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners’ Warming was beaten just half a length for second in the Harris after being shipped West for trainer Graham Motion.
The Patrick Gallagher-trained one Firenze flavor grade 3 winner on this course in the Romantic Stakes (G3T) in May, looks to return to top form after two consecutive losses at Sea.
