Joe Pyfer provided some clarification on his nickname ‘Bodybagz’.
Ever since he scored a highlight-reel knockout against Ozzy Diaz on an episode of Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022, fans have fallen in love with the middleweight for some reason. One of those reasons is his unique nickname.
While some have made assumptions about the tag, Pyfer confirmed that it is nothing more than a reference to his powerful style within the Octagon.
“The ‘bodybagz’ joke isn’t about police brutality – it’s a fight reference: ‘I’m going to get one [ __ ] in there.” If it became a superstar thing I would change it, but for now I’m sticking with it because it suits my style: body them, pack them, and go for broke,” Pyfer said. Joe Pyfer wants Paulo Costa next
Pyfer has certainly lived up to the title thus far, racking up five finishes since victories under the UFC banner – three of which were via KO. Pyfer’s last outing at UFC 320 saw him score an impressive first-round submission against Abus Magomedov.

After building a three-fight win streak, Pyfer broke into the middleweight top 15, setting him up for a step up in competition when he returns to the Octagon. And if ‘Bodybagz’ gets his wish, it will be against one-time title challenger Paulo Costa.
“Paulo Costa would be a dream fight, but he’s so inactive, he’s fought once or twice in two years,” Pyfer said. “I’d rather face hungry, active guys like Marvin Vettori, Jared Cannonier or Roman Dolidze. One more time in the top fifteen, and I can fight anyone in the top ten.”
