Jodie Burrage is considering a trip to Australia to cheer Rugby Star -friend Ben White after fighting the tears after a painful Early Wimbledon output.

The British Wildcard started the week with good news when Scotland Scrum-Half White was a late addition to the British and Irish Lions team for their series against the Wallabies.

But her joy changed to despair on Tuesday after an extensive loss of 6-3 6-1 in the first round for the American Caty McNally on her SW19 comeback.

The 26-year-old, who missed a lot from last season because of an injury, revealed that she rolled a single in the All England Club only three days before the start of the championship and was visibly upset during an emotional press conference after the game in which she called her performance ‘shockingly’.

While her attention is going on the hard court swing in the United States, burrage is considering flying out to support long-term partner White.

“It is a conversation that I have to have with my team,” said Burrage, who is still planned to play double in Southwest London this week.

“Maybe considering my ankle and so, I might be able to. Of course, Australia is a very easy place to find tennis courts and train, so that’s one thing for me.

“I have played so many tournaments. I go week after week after week, so I need some time. That was always the case. So maybe there will be.”

Toulon player White initially missed the selection of Lions before he received a phone call from head coach Andy Farrell because of the wording of Tomos Williams van Wales.

The 27-year-old quickly joined the team in Brisbane, who had been to the Scotland team in New Zealand 11 hours before Burrage in the UK.

“I was about to go to sleep, and he called me 10 minutes later and just just looked at the phone, like with a grin on his face,” she said.

“I was just,” Oh, my God, what? “I was very, very happy that he gets that phone call.

“He enjoys being with the lions and it will be a very nice six weeks for him.”

Burrage, who had been dealing with in round two in the five-fold Grand Slam winner Iga Swiatek, defeated McNally at Wimbledon two years ago.

But impeded by the newest of a series of ankle problems, she could not repeat the performance on Court 18 and was eliminated in one hour and four minutes by the world number 208.

“It is nowhere almost 100 percent,” she said about her ankle. “My level today was shocking compared to how I played in recent weeks.

“There will probably be a few things in that: want to do well this week at Wimbledon because I missed it last year, clear what I just said about what happened on Friday (her ankle rolling), just everything.

“Sometimes you just have a bad day at the office, and sometimes your opponent has a very good one.

“I just wanted more of myself. I know the work I did, and I felt that I deserved a better result than that.”
