India National Cricket Team Coach Ryan Ten Dochate has defended the star Wicketkeeper-Battman Sanju Samson in the midst of criticism of his not so good beating in the Asia Cup 2025.
Ryan Ten Dochate said that Sanju Samson is looking for things after a change in his batting role in the Indian T20i team.

The Kerala super star Sanju Samson was the first choice Opener and Wicketkeeper-Batsman of Team India for most T20i competitions since last year.

He has done fantastic work as an opener for India and closed a number of sensational centuries, which helped him get great support from Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav.
Samson, however, was relegated in the barrier on the return of Shubman Gill to the T20Is, with the new vice captain opened the innings with explosive Abhishek Sharma.
Initially it was expected that Sanju Samson would be completely out of the playing XI, with Jitesh Sharma keeping the gloves and kept in the middle order.
The Indian team management, however, supported Sanju Samson, and now Ryan has desperately said that the Kerala Wicketkeeper-Batsman is the best choice for the number 5 role.
“Yes, I think he had two decent opportunities. And I think he still figures how to play that role. I think the Wicket also got tired in the Pakistan game,” said Tenhic.
“But certainly with the way Shubman and Abi go to the top, and with your captain refers to number 3, and the way Tilak played, we are looking for number 5. We believe that Sanju is the best man for the job. I don’t doubt that he will find out how he can play that role in the future,” Ten Descate added.

Ryan Ten Dochate further said that people like Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma will probably not get a playing time in the Asia Cup 2025.
“In Abu Dhabi we tried to get these guys in the middle for a while. But we manage things in view of important tournaments such as the Asia Cup. Someone like a Rinku or a Jitesh is unlikely that it has the current situation given the current situation. But they are doing well in training in training.
“We probably have to look at the bilateral series as a realistic opportunity to give them exposure. With the Super Four format, even two wins do not guarantee progression to the next phase. We can’t afford to get our foot from the pedal,” he said.

The Indian assistant coach has also skipped rich praise on the explosive opening batsman Abhishek Sharma, who has been the MVP for India in the current Asia Cup 2025.
Ryan said that Abhishek Sharma is quite fearless and that he has incredible skills, but at the same time he continues to relax. He said:
“Fearless is the right word, but it is supported by incredible skill. The kind of game he plays, you can’t always succeed. He is a relaxed man.”
