My colleague Jiamin, the head of operations and service at Havend, has coded a tool to help you get a good idea of the healthcare subsidies you would enjoy as a Singaporean.
Jiamin hates the spotlight, but I’m promoting it here because I think it’s a pretty useful and helpful tool and appreciate her efforts.
I view these tools as educational experiences and the biggest benefit is what you learn or how you can make better decisions next time.
But Kyith, how much can all these subsidies amount to?
Then you enter your numbers and find out.

Sometimes we need to be reminded of the first time you feel like you finally understand what topping up the CPF does, or how much retirement income you can get with what you potentially have in your CPF.
Most of us are healthy and sometimes these things only happen to you when you’re in and out of the hospital once and twice. Or you take your parents there once and twice.
Some of us have an affinity with something, like me with this idea of income planning. Jiamin has a strong affinity with understanding these things to find out the level of significance of all these subsidies, government initiatives to ease the lives of middle-income families.
Those are the people around her.
More than that, it aims to answer questions such as: can we live a sensible life with the current setup?
Vibe coding sounds simple until you actually look at the code. Ultimately, they provide information that is not always logical. So you need someone who really deals with this kind of thing, who roughly understands the grants, but also understands the code to make the thing into something useful.
You also need to know approximately what useful looks like.
What Jiamin did has a lot of potential, but rightly she shouldn’t be the one doing it.
The government should do that.
They list a whole bunch of subsidies and expect us to understand what they mean.
I think this is the potential that the government could realize.
If there are any government people reading this, I hope it gives you some inspiration.
Go to the SG Healthcare subsidy checker
That’s possible view the application here >>
You need a Google account for this.
The app does not ask for your personal information, but you must enter information that matches your current profile.
What the SG Zorg Subsidy Check does
With Jiamin’s subsidy checker you get an overview of the type of healthcare subsidies you benefit from.
I’m going through it a bit.

You must fill in the information under your profile
- Singapore Citizen/Permanent Resident
- Year of birth
- Monthly family income
- How many family members
- The value of your home.
- How much property you own.
I think this is also the beginning of your training. The amount of subsidies you receive is determined by these matters.

You can see… I really don’t enjoy any subsidies, whether it be the CareShield Life premiums or any home care subsidies.

However, if I choose to go to a government or community hospital and stay there, I will get 50% subsidy. I get a small CHAS GP Clinic grant, but no grant for the nursing home and long term care.
Some of these categories may be foreign to you and Jiamin has provided more information about them, but also directed you to more information about the grants.

This panel shows how much subsidy I get if I go to one of those specialist centers and government medicines.
One of the comments I made to Jiamin was that I have no idea WTF is SOC Subsidy and High Cost (MAF) and if I don’t know, I don’t know what the impact of this number is.
So she kindly thought about how she could keep it neat and concise, but also make the information neatly accessible.

Finally, no premium subsidy from Medishield Life.
What happens if I no longer have any income?
I think this is where a quick check like this helps you profile the differences.

The Careshield Life Premium subsidy goes from 0% to 30%.

Hospital subsidies will go from 50% to 80%.

Nursing home and long-term care subsidies skyrocket to 75%.
The CHAS material also comes to life!

Higher subsidies for specialist and standard medicines.
And expensive cancer drugs go from 0% to 75%
If my father was still alive
The SG Zorg Subsidy Check can also collect subsidies if you belong to the Pioneer or Merdeka generation:
