“Yes, it’s such a huge boost for the Winnipeg Jets and the city of Winnipeg to get their captain, Adam Lowry, back into the mix. It has also been a long-time priority of the organization to get Lowry locked up long-term,” Dreger said on Insider Trading.. “We know that when Kyle Connor joined the Jets last month, the focus of the contract shifted to Lowry very quickly. Both the team and the player are super motivated to get something done. It’s not quite there yet, but it’s getting closer, and having him back on the ice is a big step in that direction.”
It’s safe to say that both sides seem motivated to get a deal done sooner or later. But what might term and value look like for a player who turns 33 in March?
A four-to-five year contract seems the most realistic, with five years the most likely, a contract that would likely take Lowry to the end of his career unless he chooses to play into his late 30s. An appropriate AAV for a captain who provides leadership both on and off the ice, and who plays such an important role in the Winnipeg community, would likely be between $4.5 and $4.75 million.
The St. Louis native was drafted in the third round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, becoming the second pick of the Jets 2.0 era. He was named captain ahead of the 2023-24 season and has since scored 121 goals and 273 points in 776 NHL games, all with Winnipeg.
