The words of love are pouring in for Jesús Montero, also from his ex-wife Taneth Gimenez.
The former Yankees executive, who was treated by Brian Cashman, died in a motorcycle accident at age 35, the team announced Sunday.
Montero was involved in the accident in Venezuela earlier this month and was placed in a medically induced coma due to several serious injuries, according to a GoFundMe page trying to raise money for his hospital bills.
Following the news, Gimenez posted a series of photos to her Instagram Stories of Montero and their two children, Loren and Jesus.
She wrote: “RIP Jesus Montero” with a cross emoji.
“I will have the good memories tattooed in my soul,” she added.
Gimenez, originally from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, is a model and fitness instructor. There are reports that the former couple met while traveling on the beaches of Morrocoy in Venezuela.
At the age of 16, Montero signed as an international free agent in 2006 for $1.6 million. He quickly became a hyped prospect, but never quite lived up to the buzz.
Still, he made his debut in 2011 at the age of 21 as the Yankees’ No. 1 pick.
He impressed against Major League pitching, hitting .328 with a .996 OPS and four home runs in 18 games with the Yankees in 2011. Montero went on to make the postseason roster and went 2-for-2 in the only game he played in during the playoffs – an ALDS loss to the Tigers.
Montero was eventually shipped to Seattle in a trade for Michael Pineda and played there for four seasons before his final game in the league came in 2015.
“We extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones,” the Yankees wrote in a statement.
