CHELSEA have been linked with many players in recent weeks and some big names have been mentioned, but it appears Jacquet is the club’s top transfer target and the board have been working hard to secure a deal.
It is claimed that the player has asked to join Chelsea, the club has agreed a deal for the defender and it was only a matter of time before an announcement was made by the club’s hierarchy.
And asked for an update on Jacquet’s situation after Sunday’s Ligue 1 match, Rennes boss Beye told reporters: ‘I believe he is a very important player for our objectives today.
“If we were to let him go tomorrow, we would have to lower our expectations. Getting offers from a club like that can make you a little hesitant.
‘I am very firm in this situation. He is an essential player for us.’
“He is one of the best players in our team and so we have to resist that approach,” the former Newcastle and Aston Villa full-back added.
‘There are several factors that are beyond my control in all of this. We’ll see what happens in the next few days.’

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Jacquet is a very young talented defender who has the potential to go on and become a big player for CHELSEAbut he is not ready for this step.
He needs to stay put and develop in the coming seasons, and when he gets more time on the pitch, he needs to make that step up. At this stage of his career, that doesn’t need to happen right now.
