Liverpool has made Jeremie Frimpong one of their top goals for the summer transfer window, but their pursuit of Dutch International has now under the grass
Liverpool’s striving for Jeremie Frimpong seems to have been a snag, in which the director of Bayer Leverkusen denies that a deal is close by. Frimpong played the lead role for Leverkusen since he arrived at the German side of Celtic in January 2021.
He played in 47 games when they completed the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal Double last season as Invincibles, a German first. The defender was also appointed in three consecutive Bundesliga team of the years, after he had previously won a domestic Treble with Celtic.
The Dutchman has again been an important man under Xabi Alonso this season, although it has been a disappointing campaign. It seems that the current Leverkusen team may be split in the summer when Europe’s top clubs dive into their stars.
Even Baas Alonso leaves, with the Spaniard called Real Madrid’s new manager. Frimpong has left to his contract for another three years, but the 24-year-old is also interested.
Liverpool is the current leaders to sign him, while Boss Arne Slot tries to increase his defensive options in the midst of the approaching exit of Trent Alexander-Arnold. But a key has now been thrown into the works.

Leverkusen Chief Fernando Carro has beaten the transfer rumors that are starting to peel his team. He also stated that the Bundesliga side is ‘not aware’ of an imminent transfer in which Frimpong is involved.
“Jeremie Frimpong has a long contract with us, which also has an exit clause, but we are currently unaware of every transfer,” Carro said sport.de. “The rumors surprised me a bit when I started in the football company seven years ago.
“As I am gradually involved, there are always different interested parties, there are different parties, there are different relationships. It is actually very difficult to find out where the rumors come from, but I have to say that there are many that really surprise me.”
Leverkusen’s unwillingness to sell Frimpong will come as an early blow for the Liverpool summer plans. Frimpong would offer competition to Academy graduate Conor Bradley, who is expected to take the place of Alexander-Arnold full-time.
It has been claimed that Frimpong has agreed to move to Anfield, with the 24-year-old a release clause of £ 29.5 million in his contract. If a deal flourishes for the Dutchman, this would surprise the former Manchester City star Micah Richards.
“It’s a difficult one, because when another right back comes in, it can help you by helping you eliminate your game, or it can hinder you because you can lose your self -confidence a little,” he told the rest is football podcast.
“Another right back would help, but if Frimpong comes in, he is number 1, which Bradley can be difficult to deal with. I think Bradley is very good. He is good in the future, he is intelligent with his runs, and he can also defend the one-on-one.
“The only question mark is whether he could do it on a consistent basis. When he came to the team instead of Trent, the mentality of a sub is different from a starter.”
