Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) founder Jeff Bezos-supported Slate Car has announced that it will reveal pricing for its affordable EV pickup in June.
A blank slate with a price in the mid-$20,000s
In a new after on the social media platform Instagram, the automaker’s official account shared a video with the company’s CEO on Thursday Chris Barmanwho announced that Slate will share updates on pricing during negotiations with suppliers in June this year. “The Blank Slate will take place in the mid-20s,” she said in the video.
Slate confirms 150,000 pre-orders, $111 million funding
The company unveiled the pickup in June of last year and is offering it without traditional paint jobs or even power windows and stereo. The base spec version offers a range of 150 miles with a 52.7 kWh battery and a payload of 1,400 pounds, while a larger battery option takes the range to 180 miles.
Slate’s unique approach focuses on personalization, allowing customers to choose what they want, while the company also offers several presets tailored to multiple applications. The pickup can also be converted into a small SUV.
Ford’s universal EV platform
CEO Jim Farleywhich reaffirms its commitment to electric vehicles, has touted the platform as a crucial element to offset Chinese automakers’ increasing dominance in the global auto market.
However, Chairman Donald TrumpThe company’s recent decision to remove the fuel content factor from Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards could make electric cars less attractive to automakers.
