Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka belonged to a contingent staff from the Los Angeles Lakers who flew to Poland this week to see Luka Doncic play for Slovenia in Eurobasket.
“Zero problems,” said Pelinka. “I mean, it’s just something we believe in for the Lakers organization.”
Doncic had an injury shell in one of the introductory competitions.
“We only wanted to make an explanation to Luka that we support what he is doing for his country. That is really important for the Lakers when we have a player who is the face of our franchise, just to show that support for him,” Pelinka said. “And it’s just great to see him with his teammates, having interaction, having fun. As you said, he is in excellent condition, is really dedicated to work hard this summer, and to be able to see that personally flying over the ocean to come with him.”
Doncic confirmed his long -term obligation to play for Slovenia in the low season.
“It’s an easy choice,” he said. “I always want to represent my country. Always done. Anyway. Of course, if I am injured, I will not play, but if I have nothing, I will always play.”
Doncic said that the support of the Lakers to view him personally was something that he appreciates.
“It means a lot,” he said. “It’s a long flight. I think it’s about 11, 12 hours, so it means a lot for them to be here to support me.”
